Ah that sucks. Welcome to the club. Maybe you could check ebay or call a rear end shop for used gearsets. Usually $100/set and plentiful in "normal ratios" (4:10 and under numerically)

Get an old pinapple hand grenade for that shifter at a surplus store.

not tryin to be an ass but, i had a d44 im my 78 250 8" lift 40s and a built big block(daily driver and work truck). my gears set looked worse then that when i changed the fluid and i drove it another year with no problems. and YES i abused the piss out off it every day on road and off and regularlly towed 4-8,000 pounds with it in 4x4 over that winter!

Well, Got some more done.
No pictures cuz I left my shop at 8:00 last night. The bad news is the guy I got my sub from told me it had a 4.11 gear in the rear...Well It Does not! it is a 3.73!!! so the good news is Dennis has one, Just one more setback. But if I use this calculator. http://www.csgnetwork.com/gearratcalc.html With 38"tires @ 60 Mph, with the engine spinning 2000 rpm, it says to use 3.73!! Opinoins???
